Training

Training is a very important part of the onboarding process. If people do not know what they are doing they will lose confidence in themselves and lose confidence in their organization. In the book “Winning”, by Jack Welch, I found this excerpt in reference to training in Chapter Seven.

“It (training) motivates people by showing them a way to grow, that the company cares, and that they have a future. If you are doing it right, they will want to make that future with you.”

I would like to give a special thanks to Christy and Susan at Fayette, Stephanie at Demopolis, and Angela at Baldwyn. I have received really positive feedback about your assistance with training new employees, and we appreciate you going the extra mile in the training process.

Motivate Yourself

No one can motivate anyone to do anything.  All a person can do for another is provide them with incentives to motivate themselves.  Here are ten very effective strategies to help you get up and get moving  toward actualizing your enormous, untapped potential.

* Be willing to leave your comfort zone.  The greatest barrier to achieving your potential is your comfort zone.  Great things happen when you make friends with your discomfort zone.

* Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.  Wisdom helps us avoid making mistakes and comes from making a million of them.

* Don’t indulge in self-limiting thinking.  Think empowering, expansive thoughts.

*Choose to be happy.  Happy people are easily motivated.  Happiness is your birthright so don’t settle for anything else.

* Spend at least one hour a day in self-development.  Read good books or listen to inspiring tapes.  Driving to and from work provides an excellent opportunity to listen to self-improvement tapes.

* Train yourself to finish what you start.  So many of us become scattered as we try to accomplish a task.  Finish one task before you begin another.

* Live fully in the present moment.  When you live in the past or the future you aren’t able to make things happen in the present.

* Commit yourself to joy. C.S. Lewis once said, “Joy is the serious business of heaven.”

* Never quit when you experience a setback or frustration.  Success could be just around the corner.

* Dare to dream big dreams.  If there is anything to the law of expectation then we are moving in the direction of our dreams, goals and expectations.

The real tragedy in life is not in how much we suffer, but rather in how much we miss, so don’t miss a thing.

Charles Dubois once said, “We must be prepared, at any moment, to sacrifice who we are for who we are capable of becoming.”

Great Job Rachel!!!

This past Thursday (the 3rd) Amanda, Alise and Tiffany at Fulton were swamped, as they usually are on the third. Amanda was gone to lunch and Tiffany and Alise were both on the title side helping customers. Rachel came to the front to ask a question and noticed a lady waiting on the check side. Rachel immediately put her papers down and began serving the customer without thinking twice. She stayed with the customer and worked on her transaction until Alise became available to help. I know first hand how busy Rachel is and the fact that she went out of her way and beyond her job duties to help a customer shows just how awesome she is. Great job to Rachel on being a perfect example of the kind of employees we strive to have.

Way to go Rachel! Rachel

Have a wonderful day!

A HELPING HAND

Aliceville donation

District 4 was fortunate enough to have the highest overall percent over budget in February, and due to this our district was awarded $250 to be given to a charity. I wanted to give back to one of our communities in our district. I chose Aliceville as that community. I contacted Janet and Brenda and asked if they would be interested. They were both very excited about giving back to their community. We contacted the First United Methodist Church in Aliceville. This church runs “The Lord’s Pantry” in Aliceville. Each month they open their pantry for those in need.

Janet and I awarded our gift to the Church on March 28th. What a wonderful experience it was to give back to those that needed it the most. This was made possible by the generosity of Montgomery Enterprises. A Helping Hand.

After awarding this gift, it got me to thinking. When I first entered this industry, over 13 years ago, many people would ask me “why would you work for a place like that.” At first I would respond I just needed a job, trying to avoid having to explain our industry. I really wasn’t sure what type of people would use our service. After a few months I began to see things I did not expect.

What I saw was a single mom just trying to get by and needing our help. I saw the elderly with fixed incomes needing a few dollars to get by until their next check. I saw a family when their income got cut in half, because one of the parents lost their job. I saw hardworking people needing a car repair to be able to get to work. I saw a mother with no money needing to buy food for their family. I saw a family with a sick child needing money to take the child to the doctor.

My eyes had been opened that this was more than just a job. When that question about what I did came up again, my response changed. “I help those in need, when there isn’t anywhere else to turn.”

We all have a great opportunity every day to help those that need it most. Approach each customer every day with A Helping Hand and you find a great reward in what you do.

Above and Beyond

We often recognize people for going above and beyond in the service they offer our customers.  Today I want to recognize one of our teams for going above and beyond in their Productivity.  Our team at Approved Auto Sales had a sales goal for the 1st quarter of 2014.  They were able to meet this sales goal with two weeks left in the quarter.  We had a small celebration in the office and had the ladies pose for pictures with the contract that pushed them over their goal.  It would have been easy for them to “take it easy” for the last two weeks of the quarter since they had already met their sales goal.  The Approved Auto team isn’t wired to “take it easy.”  They set another personal goal for the last two weeks and were able to exceed the original sales goal by 20%.  Thank you for going Above and Beyond in your Productivity!

Becoming Re-Energized

I recently read that Gallup research shows that only 13% of workers worldwide are
actively engaged in their jobs, meaning they’re psychologically committed to
doing their best and likely to make a strong contribution.  If that is truly
the case, we all have a tremendous opportunity to set ourselves apart from the
average employee.  However, even the most engaged employee needs to be
re-energized from time to time.  Management camp did that very thing for
me last week.  A huge thanks to Meredith for all her hard work and to all
of those who spoke – it truly re-energized me!  I look forward to all of
you getting to attend the camp in future months.

Happy Monday Everyone!

Getting Comfortable being Uncomfortable…

To grow as people, it is often necessary to push ourselves outside our comfort zone. If you are comfortable with the activities you engage in, then you’re simply doing what you’ve already been doing, which will produce the same results as before. Now, this may not be such a bad thing if you’re happy with the results that you’re currently experiencing. This mindset is the starting point for mediocrity.

However, if you’re willing to do the things that make you uncomfortable, a new activity, a new marketing strategy, or developing a new skill or way of thinking, then you will create new and better results. As a military recruiter I was forced to do a lot of public speaking, which at first was terrifying for me. I quickly realized that if I was going to be successful, I was going to have to get comfortable being uncomfortable.

We have all heard that the definition of insanity is. “Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” Well I recently read that the definition of futility is, “knowing the definition of insanity and still not doing anything about it.”

Have a great day-

Will
